Black Royalty Chair Display

May 13 - June 11, 2022

On display is Bring Your Own Chair To The Table: Black Royalty.

The display features creatively designed chairs by students. During Black History Month the founder of Teena’s Legacy, Jamika Smith partnered with 21st Century Charter School’s after school program (My Sister’s Keeper), lead by Alisha Ireland. The two collaborated on an upholstery project titled, Underneath the Layers of Black Royalty. Smith worked with five 5th graders, teaching them how to refurbish discarded furniture with creative designs that tells a story about Black Royalty. The students learned about African queens, princesses, and African women warriors; including their strengths, courage and contributions to Black History. The students also discussed how they possess the same strength and courage within themselves.

On display during library hours.
