OTHER SERVICES, MATERIALS & PROGRAMS AT A GLANCE

Federal Depository Library (Special Collections) -  In 1943, Gary Public Library was designated a selective depository to receive Government publications.  It has a legal responsibility to provide access to Federal documents not only to local citizens, but also to the entire population of the 1st Congressional District of Indiana. Congress established the Federal Depository Library Program in order to promote the American public's awareness of the activities of our Federal Government. Located in the Gary Public Library and Cultural Center. To request other materials or for more information, please call 886-2484 or email, www.gplgovdocs@garypubliclibrary.org. Your request will be filled within two business days.

Friends of the Library - provide funds, volunteer services, public relations assistance and advocacy for the library system. Memberships available at all units.  

Indiana Room -Local and State History (Special Collections) 

Interlibrary Loans -When the book you want is not in our collection, we borrow it for you.

Reference Services - Library Tours, Microfilm & Microfiche Reader/ Printers,  Online Card Catalog

Photocopy Machines - 15¢ per copy, available at all units - courtesy of the Friends of the Gary Public Library. Color copies 25¢ per copy available only at the Gary Public Library and Cultural Center. 

PlayAway - Pre-loaded digital audio book, available at all units, guidelines apply. 

Senior Citizens Club - Programs, information and fellowship. 

Steel City Hall of Fame (Special Collections) - A visual display of over sixty plaques and photographs that honor individuals "who have spent many years forging successful careers and enriching the lives of others through their volunteer gifts of time, energy, talent and substance."  Housed in the Gary Public Library and Cultural Center, 2nd floor, East Gallery. 

Typewriters - Electric typewriters are available for public use at all library units. 

WiFi - Free WiFi service available at all Gary Public Library locations: Gary Public Library and Cultural Center, Kennedy and Woodson Branch.
