Indiana Room Appointments

TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT

1.  Researchers may use the Indiana Room by scheduling an appointment through email (preferred) indigpl@garypubliclibrary.org or calling 219-886- 2484 ext. 315. 

2   Researcher is limited to one visit per day for up to one and one half (1.5) hours by appointment only, see below.

3.   Researcher must provide a list of materials they wish to use on the Indiana Rooms Materials Request Form prior to their appointment.  If you are uncertain of what you will need, please speak to the Indiana Room librarian prior to your visit.

4.   Researchers are also required to fill out the Indiana Room’s Patron Registration Form. That form, along with the Materials Request Form is available online and can be downloaded, filled out and emailed/returned to the Indiana Room, prior to your visit.

5.   Appointment days and times are:

            *Wednesday & Friday: (10 - 11:30am) or  (1:30- 3pm) as of 4/23/24

            1st Saturday of each month: (10 – 11:30am)  or  (1:30-3pm)

             (Saturday appointments must be made seven (7) business days in advance.)

6.   No same day appointments.

7.   Staff will email or call you to confirm your appointment date/time and materials.

8.   Please do not come or travel to the library if you have not received a confirmation email or call.

       Please give us 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. 

9.   Only one person will be allowed in the Indiana Room/designated area per appointment.

10.  Hours are subject to change based on staff availability.

 

GUIDELINES FOR USE AND HANDLING OF MATERIALS

When using the Indiana Room, researchers must adhere to the current Guidelines for the Use of the Gary Public Library’s Indiana Room as well as the following additional protocols below, that may supersede the Guidelines:

  1. All Library staff and researchers are required to wear a mask and practice appropriate social distancing protocols as required by CDC guidelines.
  2. Researchers will be given one archival folder or book at a time. All handled items will be quarantined for 72 hours after use. This could result in delays in accessing items.
  3. Shared surfaces will be disinfected after each researcher.
  4. Gloves will be provided and must be worn when handling materials.
  5. Only pencil may be used – no pen or markers.
  6. Researchers are encouraged to do their own research prior to their visit or use the public computer to search the library’s catalog.
  7. You may bring your own laptop or tablet to avoid use of public computers. In doing so, patrons must abide by the library’s Guidelines for Computer & Internet Use Policy, available on the library’s website.
  8. The librarian will bring materials to the researcher. Please do not leave your designated area.
